About HCMBF

History

The group was informally formed in the summer of 2000 to advocate for the preservation of the instrumental music instructional program at Harper's Choice Middle School. This effort led to the founding of a 5013(c) non-profit corporation in February 2001 dedicated to the financial support to both the instrumental and choral music programs. The 2001/2002 school year was the first full school year for the new organization.

Mission of HCMS Boosters

  • To provide financial, moral and logistical support for the Harper's Choice performing musical groups (chorus, band and orchestra).
    • HCMBF provides funding for music equipment, instrument repairs and "soft" projects such as clinics not covered by the school budget.
  • Friends and supporters chaperone competitions, performances and field trips, and promote our students musical talents to the community.
    • With approximately fifty percent of Harper's Choice Students participating in music, a robust support group highlights the vital role music plays in the life of the school and enhances the lives of our young musicians and students.
Financial Support

Since its founding, HCMBF has raised over $25,000 on behalf of the music department and the children of Harpers Choice. Primary sources of income include the Sweet Serenades and concession sales at the winter and spring concerts.

Funds have been used to:

  •     Partner with the PTA to purchase a new sound system for HCMS
  •     Pay for repairs and refurbishments of school instruments
  •     Cover the cost of concerts in the Jim Rouse Theater
  •     Purchase instruments (Cello, Violas, Baritone Sax, Tenor Sax, Gong, Bongos)
  •     Purchase equipment for the music department (CD recording equipment, new music folders, recording microphones, music portfolio cabinets)
  •     Provide scholarships for the Hershey Park Music Festival
  •     Pay for clinical instruction
  •     Provide uniforms for performing groups
